Georgia’s telemedicine rules were created in 2014, and established the minimum standards of practice while providing treatment and/or consultation recommendations through the use of telemedicine, titled titled Practice Through Electronic or Other Such Means, found under Georgia Comp. Rules and Regs. rule 360-3-.07.

Rules and Regulations for telehealth and online psychiatry in Georgia

In Georgia, just like every other state, any clinician providing services to a patient located in Georgia must be licensed by the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

The Georgia licensed physician, physician assistant, or advanced registered nurse must have the history of the patient.

Valid situations for use of telemedicine are:

Provider has personally seen or examined the patient

Provider is providing care at the request of a public health official

Provider is able to use technology or peripherals that are equal or superior to an examination done personally by a provider within that provider’s standard of care.

Patient Records – The provider must maintain patient records which document the evaluation and treatment of the patient.

Follow up instructions – The patient must be provided clear and accurate follow up instructions in the event any emergency care is needed in relation to the treatment.
